Michael from Signal Jam here. I just moved to Canada, and I’m excited to learn what you do to stay private here, and exploring new ways to double down.

well, I try a little to stay private by:

using graphene os on my phone

never use social media, unless it’s federated

but wait, concerning Canada, I’m not so sure what I do specifically that is only applicable to living here. I mean, to send money here, E-transfers are the only real popular option, that is inherently out of your control, but in the hands of the banks.

Job applications? No sort of privacy there. In public? I mean, the cops here aren’t nearly as corrupt as the law in the USA, by design, so, I don’t worry at all about that.

Well, when the weekend hits… like now, I wrap my phone in tin foil and lock it in a metal box until Monday. It’s an iPhone. Well, Tuesday for the long weekend this time.

I segment my network, use a pi-hole and host my own DNS resolver with unbound. I also host an I2P node, but thats just out of principle for supporting that project… I barely use it, although maybe I should write a guide on how to set it up ‘my way’ becuase there doesn’t seem to be one.

I do all my browsing and torrenting through ProtonVPN regardless of device that I use. I understand that they not very troubled by bill C-22 because the Swiss bureaucracy would be serious obstacle to effectively navigate for any and each RCMP inquiry… even a trivial one.

I use Linux and various forks of Firefox, protected by different privacy safeguards.

I burn my fediverse accounts and roll new one’s every so often… just so I don’t get too attached to by digital identity.

Maybe Reflectalces next? I think they just got restocked.
