Signal Messenger does use Google and Amazon services, so these requests wouldn’t surprise me.

It’s one of the reasons why I don’t use Signal.

Its end to end encrypted, the server operators cant spy on you.

Also try Molly if you dont want google to know your notifications.

I know what Signal is and how it works, thanks. I didn’t say anything about the server operators spying on me.

What do you use then?

Signal uses AWS as a backend. It also uses firebase for push notifications by default, meaning Google can tell whenever you get a notification!

So… should I just turn off Signal’s notifications?

Xylight@feddit.online on 14 Jan 16:22 collapse

You could use Molly-FOSS, a fork of the signal client, to use Unifiedpush and receive notifications through a provider like ntfy (selfhostable) or sunup (which uses Mozilla by default)

Use Molly-FOSS on fdroid. Signal with AWS backend removed
