The author has no Instagram himself, but through his friends who photograph him at events, others still know about his activities.

Such leakage through other parties might be the greatest risk to privacy.

I read this post as along the lines of: “Isn’t it a shame that even if you don’t use instagram because of privacy issues, it is so pervasive in modern society that you will end up on it regardless”

Instagram almost certainly do facial recognition/tracking on a huge scale, and due to the popularity of instagram it’s practically impossible to opt out of it.

That was my reading of the article.

Unrelated but maby related to an extent.

Everyone I know uses Truecaller. Its a battery hog and a pile of horse manure. Except, one of my friend pointed out someone had added my number in Truecaller with some extremely ridiculous name that I had to register and change my name.
