Hello, I have a Pixel 8A GrapheneOs phone. I Want to make this a Safe phone. A privacy friendly phone. Basically I want to strip any/all tracking features of this phone, whilst making it hard against any adversaries to monitor me/track me, or watch my phone or its activities.

Not doing anything wrong, just want to know what are my best moves with this phone.

What VPN should I use on this phone?

The threat actor is mostly local feds, and doing what’s necessary to stop them getting grips of surveillance.

Thank you.

Is it OK if I buy ivpn with my real debit card my real name / PayPal?

Under private DNS in my phone settings ,

There is an off, automatic, private DNS provider hostname

What should I Set this to if I’m using ivpn?

Plus, my Pixel 8A GrapheneOS Phone has sandboxed Google play services, and I only have one profile on this phone (owner)

Is all this fine and okay?

If you’re concerned about the purchase being linked to your identity, no, use cash or anonymous methods like Monero or other currencies not linked to your identity.

Otherwise is this setup fine? And what do u recommend for the DNS thing?

Do u recommend changing any other settings on rethinkdns app or my Pixel 8A GraphenOS Phone for privacy?

Under my Carrier I have preferred network type 5g recommended ( one I use ) 4g 3g 4g only 5g or 4g only

Which one should I set this to for most privacy? Since I use regularly normal calls and SMS ( SS7 )

Mullvad has content and tracking blocking at dns level builtin (enabled in settings). Having it always on you don’t need to use private dns. If you use other profiles then set the private dns to one of mullvads. On my grapheneos install I use google play services only on another profiles then owner and have apps that require it only in those profiles.

You can also pay with cash for Mullvad, although I’m not sure if that’s less anonymous than crypto.

If you’re worried about the feds, you’ll want to turn on airplane mode and leave ot that way.

or just leave the phone at home

Ksk3829@lemmy.today on 26 May 03:05 collapse

My Pixel 8A GrapheneOS Phone has an KYC Sim card in it (Always) is it still beneficial to leave my phone at home as much as possible?

Ksk3829@lemmy.today on 26 May 03:06 next collapse

BTW, for me,.there is no escape but using my kyc sim card, unfortunately.

Cell towers always track you so yeah

eruchitanda@lemmy.world on 25 May 23:27 next collapse

You’re connected to a cell tower/to a router.

Your ISP can see your address before connecting to the VPN.

MangoPenguin@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 26 May 04:29 next collapse

For feds don’t carry a phone, anything with a cell modem can be tracked easily.

Instead of a VPN just route everything true tor. And block anything that tries to get around it.

i see that you already made a public post here. AFAIK this is the most active privacy community on Lemmy.

considering the recent problems in USA, where being a foreigner is enough to have problems with the officials, the question is

Are you trying to avoid the surveillance of your communucations or do you need to hide your whereabouts also?
