No. Make a dummy account

unbuckled_easily933@lemmy.ml on 05 Apr 19:22 collapse

Don’t they require a phone number now?

MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de on 05 Apr 19:49 collapse

Bunch of services out there offering Free SMS Numbers for 2FA. You might also try searching “Burner SMS”, but anyways, there are options.

sunzu2@thebrainbin.org on 05 Apr 20:01 next collapse

Would using these service be a risk if you lose access to such number?

MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de on 05 Apr 20:41 collapse

burner SMS. Burner dummy Google account strictly for age-restricted content. I don’t really see what’s to lose?

Also, you can turn off 2FA, so the number is only “needed” if you forget your password and/or lose access to the backup e-mail.

sunzu2@thebrainbin.org on 05 Apr 20:48 collapse

I see, notes.

Wouldn't Google tie the dummy account to your KYC'd account tho?

MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de on 05 Apr 21:04 collapse

I mean, finding ways around that is the whole point of Posts like this one?

Personally, I use different browsers for different purposes on a rando Android phone(+vpn for torrents). I watch this community to try to stay abreast of current privacy/security issues, but I don’t make much effort to live it, as I’ll go dark long before I’ll really have anything to hide.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go bitch at the librarians again, for disposing of the microfiche after they digitized it.

sunzu2@thebrainbin.org on 05 Apr 21:18 collapse

Haha

Cheers!

Late to the conversation but maybe consider invidious.io or docs.piped.video - also for an easy to use desktop client there is freetubeapp.io which utilizes invidious/piped API’s.

Personally I host an invidious instance on a separate machine and route that machine to a VPN my other devices do not use.

Stomata@sh.itjust.works on 06 Apr 09:27 collapse

Do you have a link?

MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de on 07 Apr 01:03 collapse

For one I trust? Never actually used one, sorry. I’ve used faxburner, for faxing, without issue, but it doesn’t look like they offer SMS.

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 05 Apr 18:04 next collapse

I haven’t used yt-dlp in a hot minute, but it used to have a simple bypass for age-restricted videos that didn’t need browser cookies. Anyone know if that still works?

danhab99@programming.dev on 05 Apr 18:09 collapse

yt-dlp is still alive, well and actively developed. It can now target abunch of different platforms.

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 05 Apr 18:10 collapse

Sure, but what about the age-restriction bypass, specifically?

floo@retrolemmy.com on 05 Apr 18:20 collapse

Far as I know, in my own usage, you can’t bypass the age restriction currently. Maybe I’m using it wrong?

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 05 Apr 18:23 next collapse

It could be that Youtube also broke how it used to work, and it doesn’t work anymore. I was just hoping maybe it did, for OP’s sake.

wesker@lemmy.sdf.org on 05 Apr 18:43 collapse

You cannot. And you also now often get blocked when using a VPN, and have to use a flag to use cookies to get past it.

Sleightly@slrpnk.net on 05 Apr 18:57 collapse

What do you mean by using a flag? I’d like to level up my VPN game

MemmingenFan923@feddit.org on 05 Apr 18:26 next collapse

You need an account. There is no bypass or workaround at this moment.

I was wrong. There is a bypass

ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org on 05 Apr 20:18 collapse

you seem confident, but it seems this is not true

MemmingenFan923@feddit.org on 05 Apr 21:43 collapse

My bad. I was wrong.

ReversalHatchery@beehaw.org on 06 Apr 00:41 collapse

np, I learned this today too. we are truly very lucky to have these alternative services and the guys behind them

themurphy@lemmy.ml on 05 Apr 19:07 next collapse

Isnt this possible with Grayjay, or do you still need an account?

HelloRoot@lemy.lol on 06 Apr 03:14 collapse

It’s possible. You have to tick a setting.

junusdenised420@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 Apr 19:37 next collapse

I know of this userscrpit, worked fine for me the last time i came across something age restricted

“by default” so there’s an option to disable?

thanks

kipo@lemm.ee on 05 Apr 19:59 next collapse

Yes. I use a FireFox extension called ViolentMonkey that allows you to install scripts.

There is a script called Simple YouTube Age Restriction Bypass: https://github.com/zerodytrash/Simple-YouTube-Age-Restriction-Bypass?tab=readme-ov-file

Install the script in Violent Monkey and you should be all set to watch age restricted videos in Firefox without signing in.

Thanks

Long ago i was building a front-end for YouTube. Back then it was just a parameter to the video in the embedded iframe. So my front-end was playing all videos without any account or being logged in.

Since the plugin works, I guess it just toggles that parameter too. Not sure why Google doesnt require an actual login but they dont (or didnt).

68silver@beehaw.org on 05 Apr 22:52 collapse

I use BravePipe on android. No account needed. Also can include Bitchute and Rumble if you desire.
