Pirating on consoles?

So, recently ps4 consoles have been going for decent prices and I’ve been wondering if getting one to hack is practical and/or possible. Mainly to pirate games. Is this possible? Where else can I ask?

Crap, sorry, I was thinking of RPCS3 for the PS3… I was out and looked up what I thought it was, but I was wrong. Removed the link to keep the scam from spreading.

You might want to give PS4 emulation on PC a try. I was shocked at how smooth and playable it was, let alone convenient and free. That being said, modding a PS4 seems possible, though I’ve never done it myself. I modded my PS2 and enjoyed a lot of downloaded games that way.****

My PC is too weak, that’s why I’m even considering a ps4

tonyn@lemmy.ml on 12 May 2024 20:46 collapse

Gotcha. Well on quick perusal I found a few YouTube videos that might help. Jailbreak PS4 up to firmware 11.00

Oki, might look into buying one

I’m confused by your helpful demeanor but by all accounts pcsx4 is a scam and you’re being extremely misleading.

refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org on 12 May 2024 22:41 next collapse

Yup. No PS4 emulator can play the games advertised on that website, especially with zero graphical glitches and at full speed.

100% a scam.

I was playing fallout New Vegas last week on it. I didn’t have any trouble

From what I see PS4 with firmware 11.00 and under can be JB

*I misread this post as asking about PS3, please disregard this message.

If you’d like to for fun, but I’ve been using RPCS3 to emulate it. Ofc it’s not the same as the console (i.e. you don’t have to navigate the internal menu) but the games still play the same. This amazing archive has every PS3 game in the universe, all for free.

IMO the largest obstacles won’t be the console, but the discs and controllers. I haven’t checked recently, but I doubt these will be decreasing in price with time.

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 19:44 collapse

My PC wouldn’t emulate ps3. It’s quite weak.

As for the ps4,

Would an 8bitdo pro 2 work? I could always get cheaper controllers

loops@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 20:54 collapse

Oh man, sorry. I totally misread that as PS3, MB. D:

*Sorry, I can’t answer your question. I don’t know.

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 21:30 collapse

Tho, ps3 emulation would be cool :3

Its just console prices here suck, a ps3 is quite expensive. Local market is so bad the only PSP under 100 euro has a broken umd drive

loops@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 22:33 collapse

;-; That really sucks.

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 22:49 collapse

Yea. ATM the cheapest nds I have found was like 90.

And a used switch might be cheaper than a 3ds

SomeBoyo@feddit.de on 13 May 2024 14:46 collapse

How does that even happen

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 13 May 2024 14:47 collapse

Small country, and shitty used market.

FippleStone@aussie.zone on 12 May 2024 19:30 collapse

I’ve been looking into this recently, it’s possible for both base and pro models if they’re under firmware version 9.0, anything above that is not yet exploitable, plus it’s a softmod so it’s a straightforward process, although it’s not persistent across reboots so it’s most convenient to leave it in sleep mode rather than power off. I think psx-place is one of the big forums for these things, but all the information is pretty readily available around the place. Good luck with it!

Edit: Turns out a kernel exploit for firmware up to and including 11.00 was released on April 30th, however no one has yet made a jailbreak for it. So while it will be jailbroken soon, currently only up to 9.00 is supported.

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 12 May 2024 19:43 collapse

Oki, thank you.

So basically no persistence? Would have to jb every reboot?

FippleStone@aussie.zone on 13 May 2024 07:51 collapse

I believe so, I don’t think it’s a very involved process, but it requires plugging in a USB drive at a certain point during boot. Some people have automated it with an arduino, but from what I can tell as long as the machine stays on stand by you don’t need to re-jailbreak it.

sleepybisexual@beehaw.org on 13 May 2024 14:48 collapse

It’s that easy?

svamp@lemmy.ml on 13 May 2024 17:58 collapse

I have a ps4 on 9.0. Really easy to jailbreak. Modded Warfare on YouTube has really good vidoe on how to do it.
