I’m looking for a good FOSS podcast app for android. Ideally something from F-Droid, but anywhere works.

Sources don’t matter, just mainly free podcasts is what I’m looming for.

AntennaPod. It’s available through F-Droid.

This is the one. You can add podcasts through RSS feeds. No accounts, no subscriptions, no nonsense.

Is there a way to skip ads within the podcast? Like sponsor block on YouTube?

No. And the dev(s) have said that they refuse to implement such feature. :(

I have never seen an app as respectful of my data usage as AntennaPod

The one problem with this app is that it has weird statuses for downloaded episodes, like deletion is separate from removing it from the queue, which I don’t understand. I wish they could just combine these.

I self-host podcasts on my server and then play them from a web app my phone. The software on both sides is called AudioBookshelf.

A few F-Droid options like AntennaPod or Pocket Casts (self-hosted instance) offer strong local storage and RSS support without telemetry. Consider whether you need cloud syncing or if a purely local-first approach aligns better with your privacy constraints for podcast consumption.
