On my hmd skyline i am degoogling. My dialer and sms messenger are all google apps anders i am assuming google is tracking the metadata. I have replaced my dialer with simple dialer and the sms service with QUIK SMS. However, i was wondering if there are any spam filtering apps i Can use that Will keep me safe? should I answer? Seems To Be The best But it is not FOSS. Can i trust it?

Thanks in advance!

i use Carrion (f-droid); however it may not be what you are looking for.

in carrion, numbers fall into 3 categories:

  • known good
  • known bad
  • unknown

carrion can silence the ringer, not show the call and silence the ringer, or allow the call as normal based on settings for each category.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m going to compare it to the other suggestions.

If you are technically-minded, might I suggest SpamBlocker?: f-droid.org/packages/spam.blocker/

It’s not the most user friendly, but it provides features like:

  • automatically download spam database info
  • regex rules for sms
  • STIR attestation
  • various rules you can adjust (like accepting calls right after using a specific app [like a food delivery app], or accepting calls from contacts, etc.)

Note that if a call or SMS is “blocked”, it’s still stored in your call / sms logs. It just prevents alerting you

I’m going to look into it! Thanks!

I used to use Should I Answer. It works well but I’m not sure whether you can trust it privacy-wise.

Thanks for your answer! I am considering this one, since it is easy but the privacy thing being unknown is a concert.
