GammaGames@beehaw.org on 15 Jan 01:36 next collapse

Many, YT ads have gotten bad over the years. I’ve seen so many scams

krolden@lemmy.ml on 15 Jan 15:47 collapse

That doesn’t have tobacco in it

I use Youtube near exclusively with adblockers so never seen anything of the sorts, so I'd like to ask for you to give examples of such ads.

Goretantath@lemmy.world on 15 Jan 02:09 collapse

There’s an ad that starts out as a regular cig, then it gets coated in black plastic, becoming an e-cig. That’s all there is to it, disgusting.

non_burglar@lemmy.world on 15 Jan 02:38 next collapse

My god…

The internet is truly just TV from the 60s and 70s again.

Now we have to wade through several decades of advocacy by health organizations to get these removed, etc.

Fucking humans. Capable of such beauty… And abhorrent baseness.

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world on 15 Jan 03:31 next collapse

Oh, right. YouTube has ads.

Why do people watch YT with ads when there are options not to?

tempest@lemmy.ca on 15 Jan 06:14 collapse

On a browser on my PC the choice is easy.

On every other device I own there is substantial friction to blocking the ads(by design)

Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club on 15 Jan 08:34 next collapse

Can you give some examples?
I own no such devices.

Is it that you use official YT apps?
And is it worth it vs just not watching YT?

Other sibling comments are mentioning revanced which I have tried in the past however it constantly stopped working out would only play the first 10 seconds of a video.

I have not tried new pipe or morph so maybe I’ll take a look or see if Vanced has improved since I last tried it.

I see mentions of iOS ad blockers but no apps for my iPads.

1984@lemmy.today on 15 Jan 08:38 next collapse

On desktop, Firefox and ublock origin.

On android, Newpipe.

I dont see any ads ever.

I do see them in the official YouTube app so when I Chromecast, I have ads. Im ok with seeing a few ads when I chromecast to tv. Its not so often i do it.

Meron35@lemmy.world on 15 Jan 10:38 next collapse

Android: Revanced, Morphe, Newpipe

iOS: AdGuard

Android TV: SmartTube

WebOS: Youtube-webOS (unfortunately requires registering a developer account)

let me add Grayjay to the android list. It’s from FUTO which I trust

@Elektrobank You know it is propietary, right?

Elektrobank@lemmy.ml on 19 Jan 20:59 collapse

I do know they were kinda grey area, but I had forgotten why.

Niquarl@lemmy.ml on 15 Jan 13:48 collapse

Use newpipe it’s great. You can even listen instead of watch. Live streams work too and you can subscribe to your chosen channels and create local playlist. Basically you can’t comment but you can read comments.

FreddiesLantern@leminal.space on 15 Jan 09:20 next collapse

Just stop watching YouTube altogether.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. It is not quality time spent. I mean a tutorial left and right ok, but once you get too people having opinions on other people their opinions concerning a third person’s opinion regarding… that kinda bs… nah man I’m done.

Niquarl@lemmy.ml on 15 Jan 13:46 collapse

I guess it’s the same kind of people that mike reality TV that like YT drama.

KoloradoKoolAid75@lemmygrad.ml on 15 Jan 09:58 next collapse

And I was using their android keyboard. What would you guys suggest me to swap?

Niquarl@lemmy.ml on 15 Jan 13:46 next collapse

Just add it to the “Google doesn’t give a shit” pile. For example, they don’t allow “mass-produced” or “inauthentic” content on the platform and to be fair, they do seem to be cracking down on some, but there’s still a sea of monetized AI slop they have to wade through before we can call this particular policy enforced.
