No. Not good enough.

F-Droid apps are all open source and verified. You don’t get much safer than that.

Google should not be blocking anything that’s not on the play store.

Ah, so that you can have users who "sideload" as a distinct minority, like those who root their phones. And then introduce measures to make that minority continually shrink until it's considered a niche use case that doesn't need to be considered too closely. Got it.

Yeah and then it breaks attestation or something in other apps for no reason and I can no longer access my bank account, use public transport, or do my taxes.

Most people don’t know about or bother enabling Developer Mode. Just make it another toggle in that menu.
