I have my regular cell number of course but I also have a google voice number. I’ve used GV as a work number for over a decade so that I can set it to DND when I’m off. I would like to keep two numbers without google voice tho. What are my options? Can I use the number with the signal app? Thanks

Same.

Same, except gv is my main number because I couldnt keep a consistent provider.

So do you still use GV? I’m going to flash grapheneos this weekend and make a work profile. Just don’t know how to handle this number.

I’m prepping for the de-googling journey, but GV is the hardest. I got it decades ago, and its the number EVERYONE has for me.

I also found out it might be hard or impossible to port out as well. There are still some legacy elements that we can’t work around in this digital age. I guess I’ll just start telling everyone to use my new number and keep an eye on what calls and texts still come in on the GV number.

I successfully ported my GV number out to VOIP.ms last year with very few issues. Once at VOIP.ms, it is easy to port back and forth to other services if need be. It’s not that bad.

Between this post and my carriers website saying they don’t do ports from GV I assumed I was screwed.

You can always port it to another VOIP service. I highly recommend JMP.chat. I use it for my work number and personal number. Easy to disable accounts or mute the apps.

So I’m in the same boat, but I want to connect JMP to my Matrix server, which means I have to use a SIP app for calls. Is there one you can think of that integrates with the Android dialer?

ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org on 30 Mar 00:42 collapse

Beware, I don’t think they support secure SIP (SIP-over-TLS + SRTP) yet. I have dedicated SIP devices and this is a roadblock to me switching to JMP.chat.

Oh that’s good to know.

I’ll look into that. Hoping I can just use signal install. I’m already paying for magic earth and a NAS so not trying to make degoogling super expensive.
