It’s still running Google Services?

I mean, I love Samsung’s take on the iPhone Dynamic Island (the music widget in your status bar), my wife’s does it too — but it’s a OneUI feature which means you have Google Services… right?

So it’s just… no extra Google apps? Or can you do more on a modem Samsung?

Yeah its difficult in that sense, also with Android’s notification service (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging). Theyre doing their best as of now. Unless they flashed a degoogled ROM.

Do de-Googled OneUI ROMs exist? I remember in the S3 days (last time I modded Samsung), TouchWiz (what it was called then) was full bloat. I never saw a de-bloated (or de-Googled) TouchWiz ROM.

Not since the introduction of OneUI 8. Those with older OneUI have some options, Lineage has roms for models up to S20 series I think.

Not the S10, not the one I have.

I don’t really mind though, I used to do custom firmware, never used Lineage but I used CyanogenMod plenty of times. I’ve checked, though. But it’s fine, the S10 is kinda just a prop phone anyway, that happens to have a ton of music on it. And it’s Animal Crossing themed. ;)

Are you sure, because it is listed on their supported devices list. Unless it’s the SoC that’s different.

Only the international/unlocked model. I have a carrier locked version. I don’t care, it’s WiFi only. It doesn’t have cell service.

You can filter out the garbage using Next DNS. It’s great and free.

Unfortunately, I still run the AI services just to help battery life.

I got rid of stuff like the AI core and the battery life was horrendously ass, so I had to re-enable it.

Besides from that, I have de-blowed at every Google service except the Play Store and services just because I need a few apps.

Over 95℅ of my apps are all FOSS

cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 31 Mar 12:27 next collapse

Damn. I was hoping you could get rid of the AI entirely.

lil_era76@lemmy.world on 02 Apr 00:48 collapse

You Can. Put the battery optimizations are hidden behind the AI services. I uninstalled them with Canta. I would only get eight hours on a charge. with the AI features I get around 16-18

Have you tried using MicroG or Auroura instead of Google Play? You can actually turn Play off with adb.

Also, you can request Samsung not to collect your data if you contact them.

The real challenge is De-Samsunging it. Can only disable Samsung’s keyboard and many other things via ADB commands. The keyboard itself is some kind of data hog that can consume gigs of space. It also has a 40+ slot clipboard history that it will retain even if you aren’t using the keyboard. It no longer saves the clipboard once you disable it via ADB though.

I use FUTO. I love it

skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de on 03 Apr 08:22 collapse

Totes. Gotta murder the Samsung keyboard though, or it’s still harvesting while using Futo. Ask me how I know.
